Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Configuring your computer for Spin:

What’s my login or username?
For dial-up networking, your primary e-mail address is your login name. For instance if your e-mail address is gumby@spininternet.com then you would simply type this into your dial-up program’s login name field.

What’s my e-mail address?
All of Spin’s e-mail addresses end in ‘@spininternet.com’. So if your username is ‘gumby’ then your e-mail address will be gumby@spininternet.com. Note that you can have a username that is totally different than your real name.

What do I use for an e-mail server?
Spin’s POP3 server is simply pop3.spininternet.com. Spin’s SMTP server is smtp.spininternet.com.

What do I use for a news server?
Spin’s news servers are: news.spininternet.com, anonymous.spininternet.com, binaries.spininternet.com, spamkiller.spininternet.com. You must login in with your Spin login (without @spininternet.com) and password to access news services on Spin.

I forgot my password! What do I do?
This happens quite often. Don’t panic. Just call Spin at 1-888-SPIN-797 (7746-797) and ask the representative help you remember your password. They will require verification of your personal billing information before releasing any information about your account.

What is DNS and how do I configure it for Spin?
DNS or Domain Name System is the way that Internet domain names are located and translated into IP (Internet Protocol) addresses throughout the internet. A domain name is a meaningful and easy-to-remember "handle" for an internet address.

When configuring your dial-up program, you may want to add specific DNS server search IP’s rather than use ‘server assigned’ DNS. You can use the following IP’s for DNS if you are having a problem connecting to Spin:

70.98.59.171
70.98.59.172

I’m Channel-bonding two modems. How do I set this up?
When channel-bonding two modems, you will need to specify a “dual” login username to dial into Spin with the second modem. Here’s how this works:

1st modem’s login username: yourname@spininternet.com
2nd modem’s login username: yourname@spininternet.com
You will use your same password for both.
